While Solomon Islanders are predominantly Melanesian, there is a wide range of cultural influences that make the Solomon Islands a pure South Pacific melting pot. The people of Rennell and Bellona are from Polynesian ancestry. The art and dance influences are quite noticable. Micronesian, European and Chinese populations make up the remainder.

World War 2 will always be an important part of Solomon Islands history, be central in the Coral Sea and Pacific campaigns. The balttles in this region were significant in the freedom won, not only for the people of the Solomons, but for the rest of the South Pacific.
